Property for sale in Agia Pelagia, Kythira

Agia Pelagia is a coastal village at the north-eastern end of Kythira, a line of houses, small hotels and tavernas along a beach, with the mountains of the Peloponnese across the strait. It was once the island's ferry port and remains on the practical side of the island, near the present ferry and the shops of Potamos. It suits buyers who want a house by the sea on the accessible end of a remote island, without published price data to lean on.

Islands

The north-east coast

Agia Pelagia faces north-east across the strait to the Peloponnese, close enough to see the mainland on a clear day, and the coast on either side is a series of beaches beneath low cliffs. The village is level and easy to walk, unlike Chora and Kapsali, and Potamos, the market village of the north, is a short drive inland. The airport and the ferry from Neapoli are on this half of the island.

Property

The stock is houses and apartments in the village, holiday units built for the summer trade, and villas and plots on the slopes above with views across the strait. Kythira's market is too thin and seasonal for any published index, and no reliable average can be given for Agia Pelagia, so asking prices are shown on each listing; as a rule they sit below those of the northern Ionian islands. Buyers are Athenians, returning diaspora Kytherians and a few Europeans, and Agia Pelagia attracts those who want the beach and the ferry rather than the castle view.
