Property for sale in Chora, Kythira
Chora is the capital of Kythira, a white town on a rock at the southern end of the island beneath a Venetian castle, looking down over the double bay of Kapsali and out towards Crete. It is the island's administrative centre and its postcard, with a Cycladic plainness of light and building that sets it apart from the northern Ionian. It suits buyers who want a house in the castle town of an island that is quiet even in August, in the €800,000 Golden Visa zone.

Area guide
The castle town
Chora is a single main lane of low white houses running out to the castle gate, with the town spread on the slopes either side and the sea on three sides below. The castle holds churches and the views south over Kapsali; the houses in the town are stone under whitewash, many of them old and small. The airport, with its flights from Athens, and the ferry from Neapoli on the Peloponnese, which takes about an hour, are both some distance to the north.
Property and prices
Property in Chora is houses in the town, some restored and some to restore, and villas and plots on the slopes around it and along the road to Kapsali. Kythira has no published price index and a thin, seasonal market, and we do not quote a figure for Chora that we cannot verify; asking prices are shown on each listing, and they are generally below those of the northern Ionian. Buyers are Athenians, returning Kytherians from the large Australian diaspora and a few northern Europeans, and the process is slow, with much sold through family and word of mouth. The island's population and its place in the Region of Attica both put it in the €800,000 Golden Visa zone.
