The village
Avlemonas sits on a low, rocky shore where the sea comes into the village in narrow inlets, and the houses, whitewashed and low, are built around them with steps down to the water. The small Venetian fort stands at the entrance to the harbour. The east coast on either side is dry and open, with beaches within reach, and the village is some distance from Chora and the airport by the island's winding roads.

Property is houses in the village, most of them restored to a simple standard, villas built in the village manner on the edges, and plots on the slopes behind with views to the sea. Very little is offered in any year, and what is offered is often sold quietly to people already connected to the island.
